Mompox: Patrimonio Histórico / World Heritage

Santa Cruz de Mompox, once an important commercial hub which now seems to be trapped by the humidity and the slow-moving time, was founded in 1537 and named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. Mompox exists in Colombia’s collective memory as an island steeped in history, an island which has witnessed everything from the Inquisition to battles led by Bolivar himself, and has since been forgotten by governments and generations.
