In 2018, I ventured outside of Paris for the first time and visited two other major French cities for the day, though it would have been worth it to stay longer in both places.

Nantes
Back in the X and XI Centuries, Nantes was the capital of ancient Brittany; currently, it’s the capital city of the Loire-Atlantique department, a controversial decision that saw it excluded from the modern region of Brittany. The city, which is the birthplace of fantasy novelist Jules Verne, is known for the Machines of the Isle of Nantes (like that giant elephant spraying tourists with water), the XIII Century castle in the city centre, and its amazing wine and seafood.

En los Siglos X y XI, Nantes fue la capital de la antigua Bretaña. Hoy en día es la ciudad capital del departamento Loire-Atlantique, una decisión controversial ya que se vio excluída de la región moderna de Bretaña. La ciudad, donde nació el escritor de fantasía Julio Verne, es conocida por las Máquinas de la Isla de Nantes (como el elefante gigante que le echa agua a los turistas), el castillo del Siglo XIII en el centro de la ciudad, y su increíble vino y comida de mar.
Rouen
Rouen is the capital city of Normandy, once one of the most prosperous cities of medieval Europe. It was the birthplace of Joan of Arc and was severely damaged during WWII, but its iconic half-timbered houses and Gothic cathedrals still stand as a testament to its history.
