Autillo Grande

The megascops ingens is like a small owl. A nocturnal bird, it’s usually difficult to see during the day, but the following portraits were all taken in daytime in La Estrella, Antioquia, Colombia. On both occasions, the birds (or bird–I don’t know if it’s the same individual) were perched atop high branches of a shady tree. They usually live between 1,400-2,200 masl in subtropical forests and low temperate zones of the central range of the Andes. (Information from the book Birds of Colombia)
